Authorities in Northern Kentucky are investigating a two-car crash that left one woman dead and three people injured.

The accident happened in nearby Burlington around 10:50 p.m. at the intersection of Burlington Pike and Limaburg Road. According to one source, a 19-year-old man was the driver of a vehicle that collided with a GMC Yukon. A 42-year-old woman from Florence was a passenger in the young man’s car. She was brought to a nearby hospital after the crash, but was later pronounced dead.

The 19-year-old driver, as well as two other passengers, was also treated at a nearby hospital.

An accident reconstruction unit is investigating the fatal crash. However, early reports indicate that the 19-year-old man ran a red light.

The people involved in this accident likely had no idea the tragedy they would be forced to deal with when they got in their cars that evening. Car accidents are unexpected. However, they are almost always preventable.

When people fail to obey the laws of the road, are distracted or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, tragedies can occur. Because we use our cars so frequently, people often forget how powerful a motor vehicle can be. As evidenced by this recent tragedy, a car accident can cause major injuries and even death.

Fortunately, surviving family members have legal options they can pursue. They may wish to file a wrongful death lawsuit against any negligent parties. Nothing can take away the pain of losing a loved one in an accident. However, a civil lawsuit may alleviate any financial burdens as well as provide family members with a sense of justice.
